Music and All That Jazz

Bring your lawn chairs, gather your friends on the courthouse square, and listen to various music genres. The time is 7:00 - 9:00pm for all performances (except for May 24th).

2018 Music and All that Jazz Performances

May 24 - (Thursday) NHS Jazz Combo (6:30pm - 8:30pm)

Music and All That Jazz will kick off the summer concert series with some local student talent.  Students from the hometown Noblesville High School will present the most unique final exam you’ll ever find, a concert for the community on the courthouse square!  NHS boasts four jazz bands, and within these bands, students will present jazz standards that they have chosen, listened to, practiced, and developed for this evening.  Bring a picnic, kick off your shoes, and come listen to some of the finest student musicians you could hope to hear!

June 8 - Jazz Elements

Jazz Elements is a 6-piece band based in Indianapolis that specializes in jazz standards and songs from the Great American Songbook from Route 66 to Satin Doll and many more!  Plus they love to see folks dancing!  The line-up includes Jim Faux - Sax, Flute and Vocals, Judy Lynn Faux - Vocals, Jim Newel - Bass and Vocals, Bob McLeaish - Drums, Randy Harrison - Guitar, Orion Bell - Keyboard/Piano

June 22 -Moment’s Notice

Moment's Notice is a new addition to the Indianapolis jazz scene. They are musicians not only dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of America's music, but also to innovation through unique concepts and original compositions. The Central-Indiana natives have performed together with many of the Midwest’s finest. Evan and Jen are both active performers, as well as educators.

They’re influences include Wayne Shorter, John Coltrane, and Miles Davis, Kenny Dorham, Roy Hargrove, Chris Potter, and Joshua Redman.  Moment’s Notice includes Evan Drybread on saxes, Nick Tucker on bass, Joel Tucker on guitar, and Jen Suikola on trumpet.

July 6 - Mudsock Jazz Combo

Mudsock Jazz Combo, one of nine Fishers Music Works Ensembles, was created in 2013 by trumpeter Doug Murray, as a way for musicians from Fishers and the surrounding area to play jazz in a flexible group which is able to perform in a variety of venues while also having a diverse library of jazz music ranging from 20s/30s era jazz, including Dixieland, up to jazz/rock fusion (e.g. Chicago, Blood, Sweat & Tears). The combo currently has a pool of fifteen musicians and four vocalists, which provides a unique versatility for this ensemble.

July 20 - Peter Luttrull

An up-and-coming musician, composer and educator, Peter Luttrull  has been on the Indianapolis for two years.  Luttrull's playing and compositions are a unique blend of his own artistic expression and the jazz tradition. Listeners will find Luttrull's fusion of tradition and personal expression familiar, compelling and engaging.  Peter will be joined by some of Indy’s finest rhythm section musicians.

August 3 - Farrelly Markiewicz Jazz

FMJQ is made up of musicians with extensive experience including Gene Markiewicz on drums, and Jim Farrelly on woodwinds. The FMJQ musicians have been a part of Indiana’s jazz scene for many years. Each player in the group brings a professional wisdom. FMJQ is an evolving musical group that brings enjoyment to audiences across Indiana.

August 17 - Sarah Scharborough

Using her classical and jazz background, Sarah Scharbrough mixes in other audio flavors - gospel, country, and pop for a soulful and eclectic sound.  Having worked with Grammy-award winning musicians, Sarah’s songs have taken her around the world to jazz festivals, colleges, clubs, conferences, and churches, among other events.

Sarah is the daughter of musicians and values the joy that playing and singing with her family still brings.  She is accompanied by her husband (Jeff McLaughlin) on drums, brother (Stephen Scharbrough) on guitar, sister (Suzanne Cogswell) on vocals, and Bethany Robinson (who is like a sister) on bass.  Building on a foundational love of music, she and Jeff try to leave a legacy of music and joy in their own home and community.

Sarah has released 5 albums including "So Many Reasons", "The Least of These", “Draw Me Back”, “The Bright Midwinter - A Christmas Meditation.”, and, most recently, “Sit With Me”.  Join her band this summer as they share standards and originals with their hometown crowd on the square in Noblesville!

September 7 - David Hartman Band

The David Hartman Band - Always a crowd favorite, the hometown guys always serve up a jazzy blend of standards, pop/rock, and original tunes! The band consists of: Jason Jasper - sax/EWI/vocals, Don Smith - trumpet/vocals, Tom Fowler - guitar, Greg Gegogeine - bass, David Hampton - drums, and David Hartman - guitar. If you like an eclectic mix of music (from Alman Brothers, Wes Montgomery, Beatles, AC/DC, Monk, Duke Ellington, Latin, Swing, Blues etc...), you will enjoy listening to this band's originals and arrangements. Bring your dancing shoes too!
