Masonic Hall

Location:
89 - 98 North 9th Street
History of the Building:
The prominent three-story brick corner building, built circa 1870, once housed the City Theater and the local newspaper. Purchased in 1884 by Masonic Lodge No. 57, the structure was the first to be embellished in downtown Noblesville with Germanic stepped gables indicating the sizable German population. Architect W. H. Brown of Indianapolis introduced this architectural feature, influencing its use on several other downtown properties. Carved in stone above the third floor, the Masonic symbol represents the organization that met here until 1915.
